Tilde provides machine translation for Finnish Prime Minister's office
AI solutions for multilingual challenges
The Office of the Finnish Prime Minister oversees and manages the entire Finnish state administration and provides services to governmental agencies and the public in general. As Finland is a bilingual country with growing translation needs, one of its top priorities is to use the latest AI technologies to support their multilingual needs and create a comprehensive machine translation service for the Finnish government and its ministries.
Secure adaptive machine translation
Translation quality, data privacy, and compliance with the strictest security requirements were the key factors that guided the development of the new solution. Tilde was spot on in delivering what the Office of the Finnish Prime Minister needed – the MT service AURA. It generates fast, fluent, and secure translations of documents and texts in the Finnish-Swedish, Swedish-Finnish, Finnish-English, and English-Finnish language pairs.
As Finnish is a morphologically rich and challenging language for machine learning, Tilde’s team of researchers and engineers developed custom machine translation engines that were based on deep machine learning algorithms and included dynamic terminology integration to take into consideration unique terminology and linguistic requirements.
Improved productivity and quicker translation process
Besides supporting a team of 70 in-house translators and terminologists at the Prime Minister’s Office, AURA will also be available to all governmental officials eventually increasing the total number of potential users to 6,000. This machine translation tool will help the translators of the Office of the Finnish Prime Minister to improve productivity and shorten translation processes. Employees of the Finnish government will also be able to add their terminology to indicate how unique words and phrases should be translated.
Furthermore, employees of public bodies will also be able to quickly translate a wide variety of documents in PDF and other formats on a private cloud-based translation platform.
“We are extremely excited to launch the AURA, which will help us to improve the flow of our information, translator productivity and all operations of the government,”
says Simo Kankkunen, a project manager from the Language Services Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister.
