On January 26 in Brussels, Tilde was invited to participate in the Future Media Lab annual conference, “Technology and Media: Shaping the Future of Audience Engagement.” At the conference, Tilde Business Development Manager Rihards Kalniņš took part in a debate entitled “Engage with your audience in a multilingual continent: translated syndication in action”, moderated by the founder of EurActiv, Christophe Leclercq.

During the debate, Kalniņš and other participants discussed the role of language technologies in the future of digital media. Specifically addressed were the ways in which language technology can help make international media more multilingual, expanding access to news and information to include multilingual sources. Participants agreed that tools such as machine translation are essential for media companies, helping them to analyse huge volumes of multilingual content, as well as to provide a truly European spectrum of information to consumers.

Future Media Lab invited media professionals, journalists, start-ups, technology experts, academics and politicians to gather for one day for a very timely discussion about how to shape the future of audience engagement. The conference looked at disruptions and innovations Europe’s media sector is facing and driving in this field and links them back to the relevant policy agenda of the EU, such as the Digital Single Market strategy of the European Commission.
